UIDP Webinar: Venture Capital and U-I Engagement

Venture capital (VC) investment is one of the most crucial sources of funding for university startups. With only one-third of research-intensive U.S. universities having their own venture fund, many startups are seeking investments from external partners. As academic researchers continue to produce investment-worthy ideas, universities and companies alike may ask how venture capital in corporations enters into university-industry engagement, how collaborators should leverage this aspect of the relationship, and what companies may expect of their university partners in this type of engagement.

Moderated by Collaborative Real Estate’s Michael DiCenso, this webinar offered insight from Samsung Ventures, Deerfield Management, and Astellas Pharma on various VC engagement models and their role in the landscape of university-industry engagement. The webinar was opened to UIDP member and nonmember representatives.
