UIDP Academy: Consortia Workshop

October 4, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - October 5, 2016 @ 11:00 am EDT

The Consortia Workshop is a UIDP Academy event, designed to provide organizational leaders valuable insights on the key issues to organizing multi-stakeholder collaborations by review of different models and approaches.

Updated Locations

Tuesday: Georgia State University, 100 Auburn Ave NE, Centennial Hall, 120 Conference Room, Atlanta, Georgia

Wednesday: Georgia Tech, Academy of Medicine, 875 W. Peachtree NW, Atlanta

Workshop overview

Consortia has emerged as a collaboration model for long, complex, costly and high risk problems that are beyond any one organization’s capabilities. A consortium brings together researchers from a range of organizations to leverage their assets, knowledge and resources towards an aligned goal and to create broadly useable solutions that benefit all participant. To be successful participants that may represent, academia, government, non-profits, and industry share a vision and create a governance structure that supports transparency and accountability throughout the research and development process. This type of collaboration is a complex endeavor – with multiple stakeholders and therefore multiple challenges. Integrating participants, that are driven by different cultures, incentives, resources, and have varying abilities to contribute, is challenging

  • Aligning expectations, cultures, and the mission of the participants
  • Governance for managing transparent multi party decision processes and accountability
  • Addressing key policy matters including confidentiality, intellectual property, and data sharing among participants.
  • Understanding the financial structure
  • Measuring value and impact
