This UIDP Academy series presents information and ideas from leading subject matter experts on tried, true, and new approaches to U-I contracting, with opportunities for Q&A and presenter interaction. Presenters will use the UIDP Contract Accords as practical guidance to help participants understand issues and collaborate more effectively.
Topic: Confidentiality & Publications
Mutually agreeable treatment of confidential information and publication in industry sponsored research agreements requires that the parties have a clear understanding of the research project and a good working relationship with each other. This session will explore how universities and industry can benefit from understanding their differing perspectives and how confidential and proprietary information can be treated so that agreements are workable and meet the needs of both parties. The session will also discuss publication clauses that consider the anticipated results of the project, the parties’ intentions or sensitivities about publication, the impact of publication on intellectual property rights, dependency of publication on disclosure of confidential information; and the regulatory issues related to publication.

Katie Morris, IU
Katie Morris has been in the world of research administration for five years. She started as a Contract Officer at Indiana University in 2011 after transitioning out of a practice in criminal law. In 2012, she began managing a team of Proposal Consultants and Contract Officers responsible for all federal & federal pass-thru proposals, grants and contracts. In 2014, Katie was named Assistant Director for Awards & Contracts at IU and currently leads a team of 15 administrators responsible for all unilateral award processing, contract negotiation, and account setup. She has been IU’s primary representative to UIDP since January 2015.

Elaine Brock, UIDP Contract Accords Manager
Elaine is a Project Manager for the UIDP, managing the Contract Accords and Master Agreements projects, both of which develop practical guidance and materials to help parties negotiating collaborative research agreements. She is President & Senior Partner at Contracts, Compliance, and Conflict of Interest Authority, LLC, where she provides advice and counsel to universities and small business on research administration issues.
