UIDP Webinar: NSF CHIPS and Science Act Research Ethics – Understanding the RFI
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CHIPS and Science Act seeks to incorporate ethical, social, safety, and security considerations into the merit review process to evaluate research projects or other activities for funding. Several emerging research areas have potential ethical, social, safety, and security implications that might be apparent early—even as early as the basic research stage. NSF recently released a request for information (RFI) seeking input on ways to incorporate these considerations into the agency’s merit review process, develop strategies for mitigating potential harm from scientific research, and amplify societal benefits from such research. The information received through the RFI will help inform future program directions, new initiatives, and potential funding opportunities.
This webinar offered insight into the kinds of information NSF is soliciting from RFI respondents and how you can contribute.
This webinar was open to UIDP member and nonmember representatives.
