UIDP Webinar Recording: The UCL Industry Exchange Network (IXN) – Student Projects with Industry

University College London (UCL) Department of Computer Science launched the UCL Industry Exchange Network (UCL IXN) in 2011. Since then, the program has grown to over 500 student engagements with industry every year in the department. Participating students have collaborated with companies including Microsoft, IBM, NTT DATA, Intel, Google, Facebook, and Amazon. Alongside the technology giants, UCL IXN partners with top international banks, SMEs, and the most creative gaming companies. Its students have helped transform digital health care and brought technical advances to charities. This leading program is a win-win for all: undergrads and master’s degree students gain customized industry experience throughout their course; companies get to fast-track innovation, and the university expands and strengthens its partnership ecosystem. UCL IXN readies students for their careers. In contrast to the capstone projects model, IXN allows students to work on industry projects integrated into the curriculum. They work with industry mentors to devise proofs of concepts that solve real-life problems. At the same time, they learn vital business skills. The unique IXN pedagogical approach, now in its tenth year, was endorsed as a best practice by the UK government in the 2019 Topol Review and by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
