Broadening University and Industry Engagement

December 3, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:45 pm EST

Join UIDP and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy for the Symposium. This one-day event will convene a broad spectrum of thought leaders and practitioners to explore effective mechanisms to broaden and strengthen cross-sector engagement and to identify effective engagement pathways to build new relationships.

The nation’s economic prosperity and wellbeing rely on increasing capacity in science and technology innovation. Globally, both large and small companies are looking outward to leverage emerging expertise where it organically flourishes by strategically forming partnerships with like-minded collaborators in industry, universities, health care systems, and non-profit entities. At the Federal level, agencies are championing this activity as a means to amplify the power of vigorous multi-sector partnerships to build innovation capacity.

Interactive sessions will uncover challenges and solutions around data sharing, joint research, workforce development, shared facilities and equipment and joint hires, as well as more traditional technology transfer issues. We’ll also delve into the more challenging aspects of forming partnerships, such as contractual and intellectual property issues, timelines, and tax considerations.
