Survey results: Industry perspective on COVID-19; research top priority for academic engagement
UIDP recently fielded two surveys with our industry members that produced important takeaways for universities as they pursue research partnerships.
The first survey (fielded April 27-30) polled industry about preference for receiving information about university-based COVID-19 research. In the current climate, what’s the best way for academic researchers to let industry know about capabilities and projects underway where partnership may be beneficial? See all survey results.
Interestingly, the majority said their preference is to receive this type of notice via the UIDP website or through a UIDP mailing. Designating a contact person in the company came in at a distant third.
Companies also prefer to work with strategic partners first, but half said they seek researchers who are the strongest in their research area more than those at universities with whom they have master agreements in place.
In terms of engagement, a second UIDP 1-minute survey (fielded April 30-May 6) found that research will remain industry’s top priority this coming fall, followed by talent acquisition. In open-ended responses, industry called out specifics, such as university-industry-government science and technology partnerships; workforce development/training; interns, co-ops and post-docs; and advocating for technical skills development.
