Chris Ramming joins UIDP team as senior strategic advisor

UIDP is pleased to announce that Chris Ramming has joined our team as senior strategic advisor.

Chris is well known in the UIDP community as a contributor and thought leader, with particular expertise in technology and research management strategy. For more than a decade, he has substantively contributed to our community on ground-breaking projects and initiatives, including public dedication of IP models, joint funding of university projects, and our HBCU initiative.

Chris has a passion for working at the intersection of theory and practice, gaining remarkable wisdom and catalyzing impact while serving in industry and in government research leadership roles (Chris shares his story in the UIDP publication, ).

Before joining UIDP as senior strategic advisor, he served as VMware’s senior director of research and innovation, with responsibility for several innovation programs, including the company’s global academic research program, its company-wide Innovation Council, and an internal incubator that opened opportunities in security, data platforms, containerization, IOT, and blockchain. At and prior to VMware, many of his projects and programs have been grounded in partnerships that spanned industry, academia, and/or government.

Chris served UIDP in voluntary roles, including as its board chair, and has also served in voluntary leadership positions with DARPA’s Information Science and Technology Study Group (ISAT) and . Chris has a background in computer science with degrees from Yale and UNC Chapel Hill.
