Center for Atomically Thin Multifunctional Coatings (ATOMIC): An NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center Webinar
March 27, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
The Center for Atomically Thin Multifunctional Coatings (ATOMIC), a National Science Foundation (NSF) and industry-funded research center, is devoted to the design and development of advanced coatings based on 2D layered materials, and synergistically integrates world-leading faculty, researchers, students, and staff from Penn State and Rice University with industry and national labs. ATOMIC provides a platform for public agencies and companies to cost-effectively collaborate on shared, precompetitive research topics by leveraging R&D investment to access world-class facilities, faculty, and graduate students. The Center’s membership is diverse. Members’ priorities drive the research agenda – and train the next generation of 2D materials innovators.
This webinar will provide a concise overview of ATOMIC’s mission, operation, funding, intellectual property, project selection, and management. The Center is actively recruiting companies who may wish to join them as members or visitors for their next Industry Advisory Board Meeting on May 6-7, 2019 at Penn State in University Park, PA.
Who Should Participate?
- Company and National Laboratories;
- University researchers with similar interests;
- Government officials who support programs in this area; and
- Any company or organization exploring the economic possibilities and current technical restraints of advanced coatings based on 2D layered materials.
Participation is free.Register today!
Mauricio Terrones is Director of ATOMIC and Distinguished Professor of Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State. He is also Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Institute of Carbon Science and Technology in Shinshu University, Japan; Director of the Center for 2-Dimensional and Layered Materials; and Editor-in-Chief for Carbon.

About the NSF IUCRC Centers Webinar Series: Hosted by Iowa State and UIDP, the NSF IUCRC Program is supporting a new initiative to feature up to 10 IUCRC Centers in public webinars hosted by UIDP.org. Join us for bi-monthly, hour-long webinars to learn more about IUCRC Centers. During the webinars, leading researchers from the various sites will provide a brief overview of the current R&D efforts followed by an open discussion period where attendees can ask questions of the presenters.
For those unable to attend a webinar, all sessions will be recorded for future viewing.

UIDP members say our conferences are a primary avenue to share approaches, collaborate while establishing important connections, and solve contemporary partnership challenges. UIDP relies on member organizations to provide host facilities and support in-person conferences. Most conference sites are secured years in advance.
