UIDP Academy: University Engagement Bootcamp in Cambridge, MA

December 13, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST

The University Relations Engagement Bootcamp is a UIDP (uidp.org) Academy event, designed to provide industry leaders valuable insights on how to craft and execute an effective, holistic approach to university relations by better understanding the key issues to consider when collaborating with academia.

Overview & Focus

UIDP Academy events bring together practitioners to discuss effective strategies and common sticking points within a mutually beneficial and respectful forum. The University Relations Bootcamp will highlight how different corporations approach the process of academic partnerships to help attendees refine both their internal organizational structure and external facing contractual activities to refine their return on investment. Each session of the boot camp will be led by experienced academic and corporate representatives from a strategically assembled set of universities and industries. Attendees will hear perspectives from both sides on issues critical to university-industry (U-I) partnerships including:

  • Key elements for a university relations strategic plan including the rationale for collaboration, expectations, infrastructure for engagement
  • Holistic execution strategies, budgets, selection criteria, finding the right partners, communication/marketing plans
  • Understanding the roles and functions of different Academic departments
  • Key sticking points in the operational matters, including intellectual property, contracts, F&A, compliance, confidentiality, sponsored research, gifts, material transfers, endowed chairs, and consulting activity
  • How government can facilitate collaborations
