UIDP Academy Workshop: Federal Data Rights

April 17, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 11:30 am EDT

This workshop will be held at UIDP26 in San Jose, CA. In this workshop, we will hear from industry and university representatives who are familiar with federal data rights clauses and their application to university/industry research agreements.

Workshop Overview

Federal data rights clauses are confusing and daunting but important. This session will cover general federal data characterizations, distinctions, and related rights, data security, and any provisions that would particularly affect university/industry agreements. Key differences between federal agencies will be reviewed. Presenters will dissect the federal provisions to clarify them, suggest scenarios for use of the various provisions, and alternatives that may be available to assist in reaching appropriate agreement for university/industry projects.

Workshop Format

This workshop will attempt to de-mystify the federal data rights clauses. The workshop will be highly participatory with examples, discussion with experts who have actually read and understand the clauses and how they can or should be used to the mutual benefit of university and industry parties.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is targeted to corporate and academic representatives with some familiarity with federal acquisitions regulations and basic copyright principles and who are interested in learning more about the nuances of the federal data clauses and how they are applied in university-company agreements.

In order to maximize direct engagement among attendees and speakers, attendance is limited.
