Data-Informed Decision Making
Mon., Sept. 16 • 1–5 p.m.
Basic
Research publication and presentation data sets such as those contained within Scopus, Web of Science, and other systems provide the foundation to detail and characterize the research strengths of individual universities and to identify and validate individual subject matter experts. Multi-factorial analysis provides the ability to benchmark and compare the relative research strengths between universities. Systems like Topics of Prominence allow universities to recognize and promote their research strengths to potential industrial collaborators. Other systems objectively profile individual researchers experts such that they can be easily identified and evaluated as potential research collaborators by academic researchers and industry.

Innovation Districts and Research Parks in U-I Collaborations
Mon., Sept. 16 • 1–5 p.m.
Basic
In 1951, the Stanford University Dean of Engineering launched the world’s first university research park as a place where companies and universities could work together. Since then the university research park model has expanded across the globe and morphed into fully mixed-use innovation districts, start-up zones and tech towns, where universities and corporations live, work and play.
At this workshop, you will learn from experts across the country how to find champions, funding, and stakeholders for university research parks/innovation districts and how new models of university-engagement and placemaking are reshaping university-corporate partnering in fields from bio-health to data science.
University and Industry Engagement
with National Laboratories
