Developing Effective Strategic Roadmaps

Tues., July 30 • 1:30–6 p.m.
Intermediate/Advanced

Roadmapping is a technique for linking the strategic vision with a plan for the development of needed organizational capabilities that enable meeting short and longer-term strategic goals. For many companies, academic institutions are a key component of these roadmaps. This workshop will incorporate case studies and class exercises to illuminate the key elements of the roadmapping process.

This highly interactive workshop will use a combination of presentations and panel discussions to set the stage and framework for roadmapping. The workshop will transition into facilitated breakouts and group work as we apply general principles and frameworks to real-world situations. Participants are encouraged to come with problems, scenarios, and topics/questions of direct relevance to their own organization. A facilitator will supply additional case stories and examples taken from real-world practicum.

Academic-Corporate Collaborations and the
Future
of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier

Tues., July 30 • 1:30–6 p.m.
Intermediate
Companies and universities around the world are exploring how the world of work is changing and will affect the way we learn, work and live. There is a major transformation in the way that work is being done and this session will explore the critical role that university-industry collaborations can play in advancing our understanding of these changes and how they can be adopted for the improvement of the human condition. Items to be considered include:
  • contemporary research challenges at the human-technology frontier that are best addressed by U-I partnerships
  • current efforts being pursued in academia and the private sector to address this issue
  • the role of governments in supporting these efforts

The Future of Academic-Corporate Consortia

Wed., July 31 • 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Intermediate/Advanced

For many years, companies and universities have partnered to create pre-competitive IP consortia. Governments and increasingly foundations have also been key investors/actors by creating programs to facilitate these efforts. This is an attractive time to identify and consider recent landscape changes, best practices, as well as the impact of these centers and whether they are achieving the desired outcomes. This workshop will consider prior experiences, evaluate current wants from various players supporting these consortia, and examine what changes can be made to enhance interest in these programs and bolster impact.

UIDP members say our conferences are a primary avenue to share approaches, collaborate while establishing important connections, and solve contemporary partnership challenges. UIDP relies on member organizations to provide host facilities and support in-person conferences. Most conference sites are secured years in advance.
