Benefits of Academic Medical Center-Industry Partnerships I

Partnering with Industry: Best Practices Module

Watch the video below

Transcript of Interview with Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD, Professor and Vice Chairman, Department of Radiology, Indiana University

The role that collaboration between academic institutions and industry in research is absolutely vital. There are lots of bright people at the nation’s medical schools and universities, who spawn a number of really great ideas, but most of us in academics lack the expertise, in fact, wouldn’t even know where to begin when it comes to scaling up a new idea for production. Say, a new drug, a new medical device, that’s simply not part of our professional training. So, industry plays a vital role in terms of changing a product, an idea, to something that could actually be produced for the benefit of patients.
